Universe The Musical

Title sequence for a musical about a girl who wants to be an Astronaut

Meet Astra - a little girl who wants to be an astronaut and go to space. P&O Cruises and Big Tele have asked Keyframe Studios to create an ambitious title sequence to accompany their new on-board musical - Universe.

We follow Astra from the age of 3, secretly reading her dad's comic books at night, full of imagination and ambition to one day become an astronaut.

The project's ambition presented many challenges all with a tight 6 week deadline; a main character growing from 3 to 14 and the need for seamless cuts to create her journey of growing up, imagining being in space, exploring the universe and battling aliens.

The client brief used AI imagery to convey the mood and feel of the film. After the initial meeting we created a detailed storyboard and animatic edits to lock down timing and transitions.

Astra's 3 ages were sculpted in ZBrush, retopologised in Blender with texturing in substance designer. Animation and rigging in 3ds Max and Blender then exported into Unity for final lighting and rendering. Final post and effects we done using Adobe After Effects and Da Vinci Resolve.
